… best TV show ever? I mean I loved West Wing, but for me The Wire beats it hands down.

Any thoughts?

Not as good as The Sopranos I reckon -- but pretty damn good. Only watched the first three seasons so far.

There are other shows (and certainly seasons of shows) I've enjoyed more, but I guess I'm ambivalent about the whole 'best' thing.

Alas, "best" is such a vague and subjective term. Neither The West Wing nor The Wire seemed anything I would want to waste time watching. Undoubtedly the same would apply to other people looking at whatever TV I watched (which is admittedly not very much over the more recent years).

I found it impenetrable, boring, and utterly uninterested in the existence of women who are not the one token lesbian. Everyone says they love it but I just couldn't.

It's definitely a show populated mostly by boys. But to say its uninterested in woman, in my humble, is selling the show short, especially in the later seasons. When the token lesbian joins homicide there's quite a bit of critique on the fact that police is a male dominated world. Also more woman who play crucial roles feature later in season one and from season two.
